Job Role: Service Desk Engineer

Location: Rayleigh, Southend & Leigh-on-Sea

Salary: Competitive

Full-time | Permanent

BTMK Solicitors is looking for a Service Desk Engineer to join our internal IT team.

This is a hands-on, varied role supporting users across our Essex offices. You’ll be the first point of contact for day-to-day IT issues, but this is not a role where you’ll spend your entire day resetting passwords and closing tickets.

You’ll get exposure to a broad modern IT environment including Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, endpoint security, networking, cyber security, Microsoft Copilot, AI and automation.

We are looking for someone with some practical IT support experience who is confident dealing with users, enjoys solving problems and wants to build their technical skills.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing first-line IT support in person, remotely and by telephone.
  • Supporting Windows devices, Microsoft 365, Teams, Outlook, printers, mobile devices and business applications.
  • Setting up new users, laptops and equipment.
  • Supporting Microsoft 365, Entra ID and Intune.
  • Troubleshooting hardware, software, network and connectivity issues.
  • Supporting users with Microsoft Copilot and other approved AI tools.
  • Helping us identify opportunities for automation and better use of technology.
  • Assisting with cyber security, endpoint protection and device compliance.
  • Supporting office moves, equipment deployments and other IT projects.
  • Travelling between our Rayleigh, Southend and Leigh-on-Sea offices as required.

There will be times when you are the only member of the IT team physically present at an office, so you will need to be comfortable working independently, using your judgement and taking ownership of issues. The wider IT team will always be available remotely for support and escalation.

What we’re looking for:

You’ll ideally have some previous experience in an IT support, service desk or technical support role. Experience gained through an IT apprenticeship is absolutely relevant.

You should have:

  • Good knowledge of Windows 10/11 and Microsoft 365.
  • A practical approach to troubleshooting.
  • Good communication skills and confidence dealing with users face to face.
  • An interest in AI, Microsoft Copilot and automation.
  • A willingness to learn and develop.
  • The ability to work independently when required.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use.

Experience with Intune, Entra ID, Active Directory, Defender, Copilot, Power Automate or legal-sector systems would be useful, but is not essential.

Why BTMK?

You’ll be joining a small internal IT team where you will get exposure to far more than a traditional first-line helpdesk role.

As you develop, there will be opportunities to get involved in areas including:

  • Microsoft 365
  • AI & Copilot
  • Cyber Security
  • Endpoint Management
  • Infrastructure
  • Networking
  • Automation

If you are looking for a role where you can build your skills, take ownership and progress beyond first-line support, we’d like to hear from you.

Interest in this position should be directed to Lisa Smith via email: [email protected] closing date is 18th October 2026.
